Olympian famed for black glove salute to sell medal (AFP)

LOS ANGELES (AFP) – Tommie Smith, one of the two US athletes famed for their black-gloved protest at the 1968 Olympics, is selling the gold medal he won at the Mexico City Games.

Smith has put his 200 metres gold medal and spikes up for auction at New York-based M.I.T. Memorabilia.

The bidding starts at 250,000 dollars, and the sale is scheduled to close November 4, according to the terms for the phone and internet auction posted on
